Praying for Barack Obama and our nation

8 Nov

My heart was ready for the message our Pastor gave tonight. I knew all my complaining and upset could not be completely godly. There are times in my life where I feel this urgency to be at church. This was one of those times. Let me just say I am at a new place spiritually that God will have to continue to help me with. I have repented privately and now I will repent publically before all of my readers. I apologize for the posts I have written over the past week regarding our future president. I still have many concerns and I do not like the fact that people are worshipping him as a god but I do have a new found respect for his position. In Christ, God can turn the heart of our new president towards him. He can turn the thoughts and views that Obama has to righteous thoughts and views.

Here is our pastor’s message from my notes.

1Timothy 2:1-5 NIV

I. I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-2. For kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3. That is good and pleases God our savior. 4. who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

We have to be in prayer for our new president and our country.

Five important prayer issues:

1. Pray for protection for our president, Obama, and his family.

2. Pray for our presidents heart to be turned towards righteousness and justice. (Moral issues and social issues)

Proverbs 21:1-3 NKJ

1. The kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water, He turns it wherever he wishes. 2. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes. But the Lord weighs the hearts. 3. To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Psalm 89:14a

14. Righteousness and justice are the foundations of your throne

Psalm 9:8 NIV

8. He will judge the world in righeouness; he will govern the peoples with justice.

Currently our president-elect believes:

A. You can get into heaven whether you are Christian or another religion.

John 14:6

We as Christians know the only way to heaven is through the salvation of Jesus Christ. There is no other way into heaven.

B. The word of God is not the final authority.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Examples- He believes in evolution and scientific reasoning in addition to the Bible. He also believes some parts of the Bible are out dated.

C. Homosexuality and same sex marriage does not violate God’s order for family.

Romans 1:18-27

We know that God loves everyone whether they are homosexual or heterosexual but he does not approve same sex relationships.

D. Abortion should be legal and it is a woman’s right to choose.

Psalm 139:13-16

I learned something sobering tonight. 3900 abortions are preformed everyday in the US. 1.4 million a year.  The African American population makes up 36% of all abortions. This video we watched said that African Americans are being extinct because they are having so many abortions. 36 million African American babies have been killed since 1973. If this would not have occurred there would be 50 million African Americans instead of 35 million now in the US. Abortion matters whether you think so or not. How many of those precious babies could have cured cancer or aids or brought revival to our nation or overseas? We’ll never know because they never were given a chance.

3. Pray for the governing of our economic system to be fair and equatable. We need to be helping the poor but we need to create jobs to do that. We do not need to give hand outs but hand ups. We need to give them the skills and education to make it and to rise above the poverty.

Ezekiel 22:29-31

Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, will also cry himself and not be heard. The Lord cares for the poor. He has many scriptures concerning the poor.

Regarding taxes. If the church was taking care of the poor we would not need taxes to help the poor. Romnas 13:1 God will provide for you to pay taxes if you are helping the poor.

4. Pray that God will surround the president with wise and godly counsel.

Proverbs 13:20 NKJ

He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed

Proverbs 24:6 NKJ

For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

President Bush was left uncovered. So many people are criticizing him, but did you ever think to pray wisdom upon him?

5. Pray that the president would govern in such a way that brings our country back together.

Matthew 12:25 NKJ

But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them. “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.

Our nation is weak and we need to reconcile the races, cultures, parties. There are enemies that want to destroy this nation.

I hope this message impresses upon you the way it did with me.

While there are still many things that bother me about Obama, I commit to pray for him everyday all of these things and for our nation.

Did you know Abraham Lincoln was an atheist when he entered the white house?  During his presidency he became a Christian and God changed his heart. He was one of the best presidents we ever had.

I leave you with this “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land.”
