Brownsville (a testimony)

2 Jun

My husband wrote this last week and it is a story of encouragement. God can speak through so many people, strangers or loved ones. He can speak to you through a Bible verse or a song. I hope our story will encourage you today as you continue to dream or hope for things to come to pass.

The Dip

31 Mar

Our youth pastor, Eric Sebastian, preached tonight and it was wonderful. I wish I could bottle his energy and drink it. He is a fire ball!

His message was called the Dip: Big God, little dip.

Kings 19: 1-18

A dip is a a valley. You are going through stuff!

1. When you find yourself in a dip, stop digging!

2. The deepest dips often occur after the highest mountain tops.

a. We forget yesterdays mountain tops when we are in today’s valleys.  b. Depression sets in like it did with Elijah and you want to worry about it and possibly even die. Elijah begged God to take him home.

3. Don’t dwell any deeper than your dip.

a. Every valley is located between two mountain tops. Your perspective can be lost when you are in these times.

4. A lot of times in our dips, the devil wants to blow the dimensions of your dip out of proportion.

a. How big is your God in the context of your dip? Depending on how you view God will depend on how hopeless or overwhelming your dip (situation) can appear. If you view your God as big then when you enter these times, you know God will navigate you through them.

5. Gentle whisper- original language represents the concept of a sheer silence, a silence that can be heard.

a. As a parent you have a way of looking at your child that does not require words this is what he is talking about. Sometimes silence can speak volumes more than yelling ever could.

We serve a God who is faithful, compassionate and loving that he will strengthen you even when you are running in the wrong direction.

God is saying get back on the right path. You are going in the wrong direction but I am hear to navigate you through this rough time a dip.
Psalm 23:4 really says it all here. He has a plan. He never promised that we would not have difficulty in our lives but he did promise to help us through it. We just have to trust him instead of falling into depression and worry over it.

This of course I needed. I struggle sometimes with life issues and I do feel like Elijah but God wants to help us through these times.

We also sang this song in worship and I hope this will minister to you the way it did to me.

What do you do when your ship is sinking?

15 Nov

Our pastor, Troy Shaw, preached a timely message on A Miracle in My House. I hope this message encourages you and gives you hope during the storms of life!

What to do when your ship is sinking?

A Miracle in your house

Matthew 8:23-27

Three kinds of storms we face:

  1. Situational Storms
  2. Relational Storms
  3. Emotional Storms

Three facts about these storms:

  1. Storms in life are inevitable. James 1:2
  2. Storms are unpredictable.
  3. Storms are impartial. Matthew 5:45

You are not going through storms because you are in sin or out of the will of God. Usually you are going through storms because you are right where God has you.

Two ways to respond to storms:

  1. I can be filled with panic.
  2. I can be filled with peace.  Matthew 5:24  Nothing surprises God.

What should we do when our ship is sinking?

  1. You remember God’s closeness.

Lesson: God is always with me! Isaiah 43

  1. Relax in God’s care.   Mark 4:38

Lesson: God cares about what I go through.  1 Peter 5:7

He cares about you and everyone because he loves us.

  1. Rely on God’s control.  Mark 4:39

Lesson: Jesus can be trusted in the storms of life.

God is working even when we cannot see him or feel him. God knows what he is doing. He can sleep because he is at peace. God this is your problem. The place is where we need to get to. O ye of little faith. What are you afraid of?  Jeremiah 32: 17

Fear: problem

Faith: solution

Thank you Jesus… you are!

Our church dance team performed a dance to this song this morning. It really touched me. I hope it encourages you and gives you hope the way it did for me and so many others this morning!

The Power of the Mind

9 Jun

Pastor Troy Shaw, of the Oasis Church preached an awesome word on Sunday. He was going to preach on Restoring the Spirit of Hope but God had other plans. He ended up preaching on The Power of the Mind. It was just what I needed. Here are the notes I took.

Renew your mind then you will know God’s will for your life. We all have choices to make in this life and some lead to life and some lead to death.

There are two negative mentalities:

1. Defeatest Mentality: I will never ___________.  I am stuck right here forever.

2. Poverty Mentality: I will never succeed. I will always be poor or I will always be stuck in this debt.

We dwell on the negative instead of thinking how good God is. When you don’t think anything good can happen, God cannot bless you the way he wants too.

He said, we need to repnt because God wants to take care of us. God can deliver you from the midst of the storm even when we are not deserving. We need to get rid of our stinkin thinkin. We need to get into God’s word to renew our minds.

There are two positive mindsets:

1. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

2. I am more than a conqueror.

God’s blessings will always follow with wisdom and work.If you don’t have wisdom, pray for it.

Don’t give up! We will still go through stuff but God is right there with us.

The hand of the Lord is upon you so RISE UP!

21 Apr

I was really discouraged last week. We were finally getting ahead just a bit and news came that husbands company had higher insurance premiums which meant more would come out of his check. It was going to be a total of $70 more a month. Things were already tight enough as it is this was going to make things even tighter.  This was very discouraging. I was praying on Sunday before church and I asked God “please let the pastor preach on faith.”  I need encouragement God. We got to church and I opened up the sermon notes. The message was on faith. It was titled “Faith Is.” Oh my heart leaped with joy and encouragement!

I opened up my face book page and a pastor friend had written a post on faith. I received my daily devotion for today and it was on faith. I know God is speaking to me and it is so encouraging!

I hope this encourages you when you get down and see no end in site that God is truly there with you.  He is listening even when it seems he is not.

Here are my notes on Faith Is:

Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Faith is….

1. Believing when you do not see it. (vs 1)

2. Obeying when I do not understand it. (vs 8)

3. Giving when I don’t have it. (vs 4)

4. Persevering when I don’t feel like it. (vs 27)

5. Expecting before I receive it. (vs 30)

6. Trusting when I don’t receive it. (vs 39)

2 Corinthians 8:2-3  Out of extreme poverty welled up in a rich generosity. They gave as much as they were able and even beyond their ability.

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:27  It was faith that led to Moses leaving despite the Kings anger. He held is purpose like a man who could see the invisible.

You have to keep going even when you don’t want to. Quitting is not an option. Run the race of endurance!

Hebrews 11:30, Matthew 21:22  When you pray, ask God for something and believe that you have received it. And you will be given what you have asked for.

Lean not on your own understanding. This point really struck me because I  thought I had heard something from God then it did not come to pass. I would beat up on myself. Here sometimes God won’t answer your prayers because it is not what he has for you. He has something better, or the timing may be off.

Hebrews 11:39  Understanding they were commended for their faith; yet of them that received what they had been promised God had planned something better.

It could be what we are asking for is the wrong thing and not the best for us. God has something better and we need to stay in constant communication with him.

This message was awesome! I needed to hear this. It gave me hope and peace. I hope it also encourages you!

Easter Sunday is coming up in a few days. We celebrate the resurrection of Christ. He died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day. I think this gives me such peace and joy to know that the God I worship and pray to is alive. He is real.

I also believe Jesus still heals and the stripes he bore on his back are representation of that healing. I heard from a friend today that her MRI came back negative which is awesome. Her dizziness she was experiencing is gone. She is just waiting on the test from the mass on her neck. She is filled with peace and hope and all of this other good news continues that hope that everything will be ok. This was great news and I felt it appropriate to write about. We hear all these bad things all the time with the economy and life that I wanted to share something uplifting and positive.

Happy Easter and Passover!
